BuildPDFs vs Gamma for PDF documents

Gamma turns a prompt into a designed presentation, document or web page made of cards, and it can export to PDF on every plan. It is built for the screen first: each card becomes a PDF page, page numbers need the Pro plan, and its table of contents has a known bug on longer documents. BuildPDFs makes print-ready multi-page documents, with page breaks, a table of contents and page numbers handled for you.

What Gamma does well

  • Very fast one-prompt generation of a good-looking deck or one-pager.
  • Live, shareable links that look good on screen.
  • Three formats from one tool: presentation, document and web page.
  • PDF export on every plan, including Free.
  • An AI agent you can ask for edits after the first draft.

Where BuildPDFs is the better choice

  • Made for print and PDF from the start, not exported from screen cards.
  • A table of contents that stays correct, however long the document is.
  • Page numbers, running headers and footers on every plan.
  • Long documents (10–50+ pages) flow across pages with automatic page breaks.
  • Book interiors at real trim sizes (6×9 and 5.5×8.5), plus proposals, workbooks, invoices and reports.
  • 85+ designs to start from, and the AI adapts each one to your content.

Can Gamma export to PDF?

Yes, on every plan. Gamma captures each card as one PDF page. On the Free plan, PDF and PPTX exports carry a "Made by Gamma" badge; any paid plan removes it. Gamma's help center notes that printing from the browser does not add the badge.

Gamma's Document mode is its long-form mode. Its developer docs list fluid (the default, screen-only), pageless, letter and A4 card sizes. Gamma's own docs do not describe bleed, print marks or font embedding for print production.

Screen-first cards or print-first pages

Gamma is excellent when the main use is on screen: a deck you present or a link you share. BuildPDFs starts from the page. Text flows from one page to the next, chapters start where they should, and the table of contents and page numbers match the final pages.

This shows in long documents. Gamma's help article on ebooks names a known bug: when a table of contents spans more than one card, only the first card's content appears. Page numbers, headers and footers come from card headers and footers, which need the Pro plan or higher. In BuildPDFs these are automatic on every document.

Which to use

Use Gamma when you want a fast deck or a web page to share as a link. Use BuildPDFs when the result is a document people download, print or buy: an ebook, a lead magnet, a course workbook, a proposal, a report or a book interior. You describe it, BuildPDFs writes and designs it, and you keep refining it in chat.

Frequently asked questions

Can Gamma export to PDF?

Yes. Every Gamma plan can export to PDF, and each card becomes one page. Exports from the Free plan carry a "Made by Gamma" badge. Page numbers through card headers and footers need the Pro plan or higher.

Is Gamma good for ebooks?

Gamma has a Document mode for long-form content and a help article on making ebooks. That article notes a known bug: a table of contents that spans more than one card shows only the first card's content. BuildPDFs builds ebooks with an automatic table of contents and page numbers of any length.

What is the difference between Gamma and BuildPDFs?

Gamma is screen-first: decks, documents and web pages made of cards, with PDF as an export. BuildPDFs is print-first: it writes and designs paginated documents such as ebooks, reports, proposals and book interiors, and exports a print-ready PDF.

Does BuildPDFs have a free plan?

Yes. You can start free with AI credits and no credit card, then upgrade if you need more credits. Exporting PDFs does not use credits.
