How to convert Markdown to PDF

What Markdown this converter supports
The converter reads GitHub Flavored Markdown. That includes headings, bold and italic text, links, ordered and bullet lists, task lists, block quotes, tables, inline code, fenced code blocks, horizontal rules and strikethrough.
Images work when the image has a full web address that starts with https. Images with a local path, such as images/chart.png, show as their alt text. Upload the image somewhere public first, or use a full URL.
Raw HTML in the Markdown shows as text. This keeps the preview safe. The one exception is <br>, which stays a line break, so tables with line breaks in a cell look right.
How the page layout works
Each # heading starts a new page, like a chapter. ## headings start a new section on the same page, and their text shows at the top of each page as a running header. The layout keeps each heading with the text under it.
Code blocks wrap long lines, so no code is cut off at the page edge. Long tables continue on the next page, and a table row is never split across two pages.
Page numbers are at the bottom of each page. The cover has no page number. The table of contents shows the real page of each heading, so it is right after you print.
Tips for a better PDF
Start the file with one # heading for the title and one short paragraph for the subtitle. That gives you a clean cover.
Use ## for the main sections if the document is short. Use # for chapters only if each chapter is long enough to fill a page.
The Report and Workbook designs have a dark cover. Clean and Editorial have a light cover.

Frequently asked questions
Is this converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no page limit. The only limit is 200,000 characters per document, which is about 60 pages.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The PDF is made in your browser. Your text is not sent to our server and is not saved.
Can I convert a README.md from GitHub?
Yes. Open the README on GitHub, click Raw, select all the text and paste it here. Images in the README need full https addresses to show in the PDF.
Does it support tables and code blocks?
Yes. Tables get a styled header row and continue across pages. Fenced code blocks keep their spacing and wrap long lines so nothing is cut off.
Can I change the fonts or colors?
Each of the four designs has its own fonts and colors. To get a fully custom design, with your brand colors, charts and layouts made for your content, use BuildPDFs. It writes and designs the whole document from a prompt.
The PDF has a date or a web address at the top of each page. How do I remove it?
In the print dialog, open More settings and turn off Headers and footers. The page numbers and section titles of the design stay.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap Download PDF and the document opens in a new tab with the print screen. On Android, choose Save as PDF. On iPhone, tap the Share button on the print screen, then Save to Files.
