Plain text in, a readable document out

A .txt file printed from a browser or a text editor has small type, long lines and no page numbers. This converter sets your text in a book-width column with good line spacing, margins and page numbers.

Each line break in your text stays a line break in the PDF. A blank line starts a new paragraph. That keeps lists of names, addresses, poems and notes exactly as you typed them.

Small marks that give your text structure

You do not need to learn Markdown, but a few marks help. A line that starts with # is a title. A line that starts with ## is a section heading. A line that starts with - is a bullet point.

If the text starts with a # title, the converter makes a cover page from it. If it has two or more headings, you also get a table of contents with page numbers. If you want neither, turn them off.

Good uses for a text to PDF converter

Meeting notes, letters, lists, scripts, short stories, study notes and logs. Anything you want to print, share by email or keep as a file that looks the same on every device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this converter free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no page limit. The only limit is 200,000 characters per document, which is about 60 pages.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The PDF is made in your browser. Your text is not sent to our server and is not saved.

Can I convert a .txt file?

Yes. Open the .txt file in any text editor, select all, copy and paste it here. The converter keeps your line breaks.

Why do some characters in my text change?

The converter reads a few Markdown marks. A line that starts with # becomes a heading, and text between two * becomes italic. To keep a mark as it is, put a backslash before it, like \*.

The PDF has a date or a web address at the top of each page. How do I remove it?

In the print dialog, open More settings and turn off Headers and footers. The page numbers and section titles of the design stay.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Tap Download PDF and the document opens in a new tab with the print screen. On Android, choose Save as PDF. On iPhone, tap the Share button on the print screen, then Save to Files.
